Internal Renovation of Grade II Listed Docklands Flat

Rashad Al-Karooni Studio delivered a sensitive yet contemporary refurbishment of a Grade II Listed flat in the Docklands, transforming the living area and kitchen while enhancing the home’s environmental performance. Working from initial planning stages through to completion, the studio navigated the complexities of listed-building consent to ensure all interventions respected the historic character of the property.

The project reimagines the primary living spaces with a refined internal layout, improved spatial flow, and a material palette that complements the building’s heritage fabric. The kitchen was fully redesigned to maximise efficiency and natural light, incorporating bespoke joinery and discreet modern appliances.

To elevate daylight penetration and create a brighter, more comfortable environment, new rooflights were introduced in carefully selected locations. These elements were developed in close consultation with conservation officers to ensure visual harmony with the historic roofscape.

Sustainability formed a key aspect of the renovation. Photovoltaic panels were integrated to significantly reduce operational energy use, providing a subtle yet effective upgrade to the home’s environmental performance without compromising its architectural significance.

Delivered with meticulous attention to detail, the project demonstrates the studio’s commitment to thoughtful restoration, contemporary functionality, and low-impact design within sensitive heritage contexts.
